MSI Wind U100

The MSI Wind was one of the earlier 10 Inch netbook offerings and can still hold its own against much of the competition following its recent update.

msiwindfrontIt is still easy to pay well over £400 for a 10 Inch Intel Atom powered  netbook so the newly updated MSI Wind is looking like a real bargain at under £300 including VAT  for the Windows XP version.

The MSI Wind ships with 1Gb of DDR 2 RAM and a 160Gb Hard disk drive giving plenty of storage space.

The 10.2 Inch display delivers a netbook standard 1024×600 resolution and the top of the screen bezel houses a 1.3 megapixel webcam.

The outside casing of the MSI Wind (which is available in White and Pink alongside the black for the same price) is a glossy affair which is very handsome but prone to show every finger mark.

When you open it up the interior plastics are a matt finish and the overall impression is of a good build quality.

This update of the MSI Wind comes complete with a 6 cell battery which gives over 4 hours of use. Despite the extra weight of the 6 cell battery the MSI Wind still weighs in at 1.29Kg keeping it within the accepted netbook standard of 1.3kg.

The keyboard is very useable although smaller and not of the same quality as that on the HP 2133/2140 but a smaller keyboard means a larger mousepad and the buttons live underneath it where they should be!

Wireless access is via 802.11 b/g and there is also bluetooth 2.0.

Overall although the netbook market has moved on slightly since the release of the Wind it is still a formidable competitor and it still tips the balance in its favour against the likes of the Samsung NC10 due to its super low price tag.
