Asus Eee PC 901
Since Asus introduced the world to netbooks with the Eee 701 the genre has moved on.
The 7 Inch screen of the 701 has been overtaken with a raft of 9 inch models often based around Intel’s notebook specific Atom processor.
Having taken over a third of the world netbook market in 2008 Asus were in no mood to rest on their laurels and came up with the fabulous Eee PC 901 to keep them at the top of the tree.
The Celeron processor has been ditched in favour of the ubiquitous Intel Atom and it has a healthy 1Gb of RAM.
The Atom is faster and less power hungry than its celeron predecessor and so the PC 901 racks up an amazing 4.5 hours life from its 6 cell battery.
The Eee PC 901 uses an 8.9 Inch TFT display with a more useful 1024×600 resolution.
The keyboard is a step up in size from that on the Eee 701 but is still awkward to use for typing long documents.
The 901 comes complete with 802.11b/g WiFi, bluetooth and a 1.3 megapixel webcam.
Like the 701 storage is in the form of a solid state drive but with a much more respectable 20Gb on offer and again the machine is Linux based although it is perfectly capable of running Windows XP.
Again where the Asus Eee PC 901 scores heavily is on price.
The Eee PC 901 is available in Black or White from just under £240 including VAT.
